Glycolic chemical peel is ideal for most skin types (III-VI)* to address fine lines and wrinkles, lackluster complexion, age spots and acne scars. With regular use Glycolic acid greatly improves skin density resulting in thicker and “bouncier” skin.

Glycolic works as an exfoliant. Because it’s highly acidic and also highly soluble it goes under damaged areas of the skin and “melts” the top layer of skin (dead skin).

15% light chemical peel usually requires no downtime, but still requires extra care: skin calming serum, lipids rich moisturizer and physical sunscreen ex. zinc oxide.

Precautions: Glycolic Peel increases photosensitivity and must avoid sun after peel treatment.

25% Glycolic acid strength is recommended for advanced users who regularly use glycolic acid in their skincare routine.

* It is not necessary to see visible peeling with a glycolic acid peel. Improvements in the texture, tone and overall appearance of the skin take place whether or not peeling occurs. Those who exfoliate on a regular basis may not see visible peeling because the layers of dead skin cells are at a healthy number.

*The following list shows the six categories of the Fitzpatrick scale in relation to the 36 categories of the older von Luschan scale (in parenthesis):[6][7]

  • Type I (scores 0–6) always burns, never tans (palest; freckles).
  • Type II (scores 7–13) usually burns, tans minimally
  • Type III (scores 14–20) sometimes mild burn, tans uniformly
  • Type IV (scores 21–27) burns minimally, always tans well (moderate brown)
  • Type V (scores 28–34) very rarely burns, tans very easily (dark brown)
  • Type VI (scores 35–36) never burns (deeply pigmented dark brown to darkest brown)

Before applying, be familiar with precautions. Cleanse the skin thoroughly. Gently patch the skin dry. Wait five more minutes for the skin to be completely dry (water neutralize glycolic acid). Apply the peel evenly with an applicator ( you can spray on cotton or fingers and gently pat the skin. Leave on  for 3-10 minutes - depending on skin sensitivity -  you can gradually increase how long you leave it on - best every 2 weeks or every 5th peel treatment - whatever comes first. Avoid eye and mouth area. Remove peel by flushing thoroughly skin with cool water.

May repeat treatment 1-2 times a week. Don’t repeat the treatment if skin feels irritated - wait till it’s fully recovered.

A physical Sunblock must be worn daily. Its best to avoid prolonged sun exposure for 1-week post peel.

Glycolic Acid vs Lactic Acid

Glycolic acid:

Smaller molecular size penetrates skin more easily.

Best for sun damaged skin: boosts collagen production and thickens skin.

Although it can increase overall thickness, it also temporarily thins skin.

Lactic acid:

Larger molecular size, doesn’t penetrate skin as well.

Best for dry, sensitive and acne prone skin. Lactic acid is more moisturizing and less irritating.
